Walawaani Way Workshops

Walawaani Way Workshops for shroud and coffin making
Walawaani Way Workshops for shroud and coffin making
  • The conservation burial site in Bodalla will be hosting their first weekend of Workshops on Saturday 25thand Sunday 26th October 2025.

There will be two artists conducting the workshops and then free talks at 1pm, including the fabulous Shanna Provost, actress and death communicator. It’s shaping up to be a fun weekend.

It’s about people coming together to learn skills and also about opening up the conversations about death so people are equipped with more information before they die, part of the growing movement of ‘doing death better’ says Fiona McCuaig founder of Walawaani Way Conservation Burial.

Renowned artist Zimmi Forest is visiting from Byron Bay to conduct four workshops over the weekend to show people how to weave a spectacular coffin.

Zimmi has stepped up the sustainable coffin movement to another level – by removing invasive vines from Australian bushland and using them to weave coffins.

Also Artist Michele Elliot will be conducting Shroud Making Workshops – contemplative and practical workshops to explore the tradition of shroud-making.

Working with natural materials, Michele will guide you through the planning and design of a simple shroud, provide hands-on sewing instruction and practical tips. There will also be a quick dip into printing with flowers and a demonstration of bundle dyeing with natural materials.

Bookings for the workshops are below, and all funds go to the artists.
