Science Week in Narooma focuses on Barunguba Montague

Dr Amy Harris

Narooma Historical Society celebrates Science Week this year by highlighting National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) research on Barunguba Montague Island to ensure the survival and thriving of its different bird species. NPWS ranger and scientist Dr Amy Harris will address the theme of Science Week, Species Survival – More than just sustainability, as it applies to the Island on Sunday 18 August at 1pm in Narooma’s Lighthouse Museum in the old Visitors’ Centre.

Numbers are limited so please book a seat via the Historical Society (0409 761 582) by Friday 16th.

Changes to the Island’s vegetation particularly since European occupation was identified as possibly the greatest single to the Island’s fauna. Dr Harris will explain how science and innovation have re-established vegetation to that of a remnant headland, which it is, to create an environment more conducive to the survival and thriving of bird populations.
